SCHOLARSHIPS

COLLEGE & GRADUATE SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIPS

Are you studying Agronomy, Agriculture, Floriculture, Horticulture, Landscape Design, Botany, Forestry, Wildlife Science, Plant Pathology, City Planning, Habitat or Forest Ecology, Environmental Concerns, Conservation, Land Management or a related field? If so, a scholarship may be available for you from garden clubs at the local, state, region and national levels. 

Eligibility for a garden club scholarship

In addition to pursuing a field of study related to land or the environment, you must also meet the following requirements to be eligible for a CAR-SGC or NGC scholarship:

  • U.S. citizen or permanent legal resident of the United States

  • Full-time student, as defined by NGC:

    • Undergraduate enrolled for at least 12 graded credit hours

    • Graduate students enrolled for at least 9 credit hours

  • Cumulative GPA of 3.25 or greater (on a 4.0 scale)

Scholarship criteria

  • Academic record - 40%

  • Applicant's letter - 25%

  • Honors, extracurricular activities, work experience - 13%

  • Financial Need - 15%

  • Recommendation - 5%

  • Conformance 2%

Scholarship winners in the region (2020)

The winner of this year's CAR-SGC Scholarship was Mary Ivy Martin, a student at State University of New York whose major is Masters of Landscape Architecture.

Application process

  • Letter dated

  • The application process for a CAR-SGC Scholarship begins at the local, district and state garden club levels. Please visit their websites for details regarding any scholarships they may offer. Note that application deadlines may vary and some may provide additional details that are specific to their scholarship awards.

  • All applications received by a State Scholarship Chairman will be judged by that Chairman and committee to choose a winning application.

  • Each state in the region will forward one scholarship application to CAR-SGC. Only applications received from the State Scholarship Chairman will be considered for a CAR-SGC scholarship. No additional forms or documentation are required for consideration by CAR-SGC.
